In his new book, UnRestricted, Dr. Dennis poetry and prose reveal the importance of emotional intimacy.  A moving example includes the author’s conversation with his young adult or teen daughter as he explains the importance of emotional connectivity as a tool of “e-ntimacy”. “Baby girl,I ask that you leave this house with an understanding of emotional intimacy or ‘e-ntimacy’, which, in my experience, is defined as the emotional connection between two people that keeps their souls balanced. This type of connection can be between friends, co-workers, clients and or any consenting adults. It does not have to involve a sexual encounter.”  Dr. Parker further explains that while most human beings are well-schooled in sexual intimacy, many often lack the ability to emotionally to connect with each other.  While overcoming such disconnections can be achieved through self-identification, reconciliation and remediation, an awareness that a tremendous amount of work is in order before a sense of accomplishment and success will be realized.

Dennis is one of only a handful of people I have ever met that can get a group of individuals, with vastly different backgrounds, different agendas, different motivations; to work together as a team. For the last 15 years I have had many opportunities to work with Dennis and each time I learn something new about being a teacher, a leader, a negotiator, an adviser, and a friend.

“Motivating Males to be Men,” released in 2014, is a precursor to Dr. Dennis’ forthcoming book, and provides a guide for men to be better husbands and fathers by developing and maintaining an emotional connection while leading their family team, their significant other and their children. Dr. Dennis presents current and relevant data on the five key threats to the family’s well-being and offers practical advice on ways to combat these “root enemies.” Dr. Dennis further provides examples of key initiatives and strategies used by civic and faith-based organizations to assist men and women in the pursuit for strong, healthy family lives. Recognizing the national significance of these issues, Dr. Dennis, without hesitation, calls on state and federal policymakers to support and strengthen families. Since 2002 Dr. Dennis has provided direct care mental health services to children and adults in Virginia. Concurrently, he helps to develop policies on the local, state, and federal government level that influence the lives of American families.
